Analysis
Even though there are no titles on the line this is one of the most important fights in the last five years. All the pressure will be on Pacquiao. De La Hoya has achieved everything there is to achieve, in and outside the ring. Pacquiao is the one whp has put everything on the line for this big pay day. He is the one that the so called experts consider to be the best pound for pound fighter in the world.
This Saturday Oscar De La Hoya will show the world that size really does matter. It’s a undeniable law of the fight game. No matter how good or skill full a fighter you are, some size advantages simply cant be overcome. Pacquiao’s unbelievable speed and punching power has worked against fighters his own size, now he’ll have to change his game drastically to compete with a much bigger man. “The Golden Boy” will have size, strength and experience on his side this Saturday. He’ll weather the storm early and come home with a comfortable decision victory.
Sturm Abraham unlikely
Having sparred with Manny Pacquiao for his upcoming bout and losing via a very controversial decision to Oscar De La Hoya in 2004 one man who’ll no doubt be a keen follower ringside will be middleweight champion Felix Sturm. His big pay however looks like a distant prospect.
The latest news out of Germany seems to confirm the rumor that the countries best middleweights will not meet next year. The Sturm camp have rejected a 2.5 million Euro offer by promoter Wilfried Sauerland who now claims to be the only one willing to make this fight happen. Sturm’s promoter, Klaus-Peter Kohl, on the other hand has labeled Sauerlands offer as an ultimatum.
In an exclusive interview former German champion Henry Maske summed up the potential match-up nicely.
“Felix is the superior boxer, without a doubt, the better technical boxer. Arthur would admit that himself. But Arthur has heavy hands. He can knockout anyone . That’s his trump card. Moreover in certain situations Felix has let the crowd get the better of him suddenly turning offensive or even reckless. There is no doubt Arthur could exploit that weakness should it arise. For Felix the question is if he can stay consistent for the entire twelve rounds.”
It appears that both men would much rather face Kelly Pavlik than each other. This mega fight once again looks very unlikely.
