Tiger Woods Masters Odds: Spot On Or Gift of the Century?
J.D Driscoll - April 10th, 2008 .

J.D Driscoll analyzes Tiger Woods Masters odds and looks at the latest props at Augusta. Tiger will enter the Masters as the shortest priced favorite in major history. His dominant displays over the last few tournaments have forced bookmakers to slash his price for the Masters and the grand slam from 10-1 from 50-1 earlier offered earlier this year. Across all the major sports books he is listed close to even to win his fifth green jacket. At these prohibitive prices we should start to see even novice gamblers stop and think for a moment. He may be the greatest golfer in history or the most dominant athlete in the world but for gambler looking to profit for the week there are simply to many unknowns to bet on Tiger. We are entering unchartered territory. As handicappers statistics and patterns are some our best tools in analyzing a betting proposition. Often we draw parallels to past events and situations and compare them to current events. But when one individual is so dominant and so unique in the world of sports it can be quite difficult to make an assessment of their betting odds. It is in scenarios such as these that I usually like to stay clear. However with everyone and their mother on Tiger Woods and with his Masters odds dropping by the minute, the only value is betting against him this week.

In the outright winner market there are no standouts that I would feel comfortable taking without some reservations. There are many threats out there for Tiger but I would rather take this bet us a straight up bet against him. The market that is most interesting for me is Tiger vs the field. To put things in perspective he has won the Masters once in the last five years and that was in a playoff. If we go back ten years he has won the green jacket three times. The field is looking more and more attractive as the hype about Tiger increases.

Can he demolish this years Masters field?

In 1997 at the age of 21 Woods managed to win the US Masters by a record 12 shots. If you like his chances of reproducing another performance of this kind, Bodog is offering a number of Tiger Woods props like the over under on the number of Birdies Tiger will get for the week or how many rounds he’ll break 70 in.
