2008 US Open Odds: Tiger Woods Big Favourite Despite Layoff
Robert K - June 11th, 2008 .

Golfs second major gets underway on Thursday at Torrey Pines, as always we’ll keep you abreast of all the latest odds and betting trends . Bookmark this page as we’ll be updating the 2008 US Open odds throughout the entire week. The clear favorite is of course Tiger Woods who returns after two month long injury layoff. Woods backers were let down at the Masters as he opened at an unprecedented -115 favorite. However his recent injury woes and layoff have only slightly effected is betting line at the US open. Tiger is 5/2 to win his 14 career major ahead of the second favorite Phil Mickelson , though Woods line has drifted somewhat in recent days.

Second favorite Mickelson is a San Diego native and knows the Torrey Pines course as well as anyone. He is in great form and has finished runner up in the US Open four times. After Tiger he has had the most success at Buick winning three times. The two have nine PGA Tour victories at Torrey Pines between them. They are paired up for the first two days alongside Adam Scott and as a result their head to head match prop at Bodog should garner plenty of attention.

Outside Woods and Michelson, the top 5 are all in double digits. Third in the betting is Sergio Garcie at 18/1 with Padraig Harrington 20/1 , Luke Donald 28/1 and Vijay Singh 28/1 rounding out the top contenders. Outside the top five Adam Scott at 33/1 could be the sleeper if he can finally start performing at the big four championships.

If you plan to stay clear of the outright winner market outright there are several interesting tournament match-up plays, individual three ball pairings and prop bets for the 2008 U.S. Open including who will make or miss the cut, the leading foreign player, top European, top Australasian, Lowest 1st Round Score, and Tiger vs. the field among many others betting options available throughout the week.
