Liverpool travels to Villa Park to take on a side that like themselves has had a mixed start to the 08/09 season, expert handicapper Andre Sanchez brings you the latest Liverpool v Aston Villa odds and his betting tips.

Liverpool has failed to impressive in their champions league qualification but delivered to expectations in the premier league. Aston Villa also started domestic campaign impressively with 4-2 victory of Manchester City, only to fall to a last minute goal to new comers Stoke last week. The away side enters the match as a narrow favorite as they look to extended their perfect domestic record with three consecutive wins, their most impressive start to a season for well over a decade.

Odds – Full Time Result

Aston Villa Win (2.75) Draw (3.2) Liverpool Win (2.5)

Asian Handicap (+0.25 Aston Villa)

Aston Villa (1.71) Liverpool (2.15)

Team News

The Reds will be without captain Steven Gerrad for three weeks after he opted for groin surgery mid week. Midfielders Javier Mascherano and Lucas Leiva return to action while defender Sami Hyypia is unlikely to start due a hamstring complaint.

Midfielder Gareth Barry will be the centre of attention for both sets of supporters. He takes on the team he looked almost certain to join. After resting several players mid week Villa see the return of John Carew, Ashley Young, Martin Laursen, Stiliyan Petrov, with Carlos Cuellar another option for manager Martin O’Neill.

Aston Villa

The upset loss to Stoke tarnished a otherwise impressive start to the season. It was just the reality check needed for ta team that looked to have gained some serious momentum early. Offensively they been more than impressive however their defense looks like a major concern. They’re creating chances and taking them however they’re also conceding a few when they open up.

Liverpool

The Reds survived another close call after flirting with disaster on Wednesday. The win in extra time comes after late goals saved them against Sunderland and Middlesbrough. This is definitely not a Liverpool side that is anywhere near their best. They’ve looked vulnerable and without Gerrard they’re simply not the same side.

The Tip

There is no doubt the Reds require a convincing win here after the close call mid-week. A loss will certainly put manger Rafa Benitez under some early pressure. However I think Villa will be a force this season as they look to reach new heights. Liverpool are coming off three consecutive close calls and with skipper Steven Gerrad out with injury their early season fortune has run out. Villa has the offensive quality to earn a result. Prediction (1:1) Bet Villa (+0.25 Asian Handicap) at PaddyPower.com .

All eyes will be on the city of Manchester on Wednesday for the final game of the 2008 UEFA Cup , expert football handicapper Andre Sanchez brings you the Rangers v Zenit odds and his betting tips for final. Its comes down to two teams, the big surprise of the competition Zenit Saint Petersburg take on the more accomplished Glasgow Rangers. Both clubs are giants in their domestic leagues but are unaccustomed to European success. This is Zenits second foray into the latter stages of any European competition. Their previous best coming in 2006 when they reached the quarter final of the UEFA Cup. Rangers last triumph in a European competition came way back in 1972 winning the European Cup Winners’ Cup. However the club has fallen short on numerous occasions since dispite contesting more European competitions than any club from Britain.

The Russian side are favourites after surprising some of Europe’s biggest names. Rangers too has dispatched some of the competitions leading contenders while on the domestic front leading SPL, reaching the final of the Scottish cup and winning the Scottish League Cup. See the latest Rangers v Zenit Odds and betting tips below.

UEFA Cup Final Odds

Zenits impressive form on route to the final has made them the clear favourites. They’re best priced at 1.61 head to head to win at Pinnacle Sports with Rangers the outsiders at 2.53. Pinnacle will also have live betting on the game.

The best odds for this match are available at Pinnacle. If you’re still looking for a place to bet on Zenit v Rangers I’d definitely recommend opening an account there. Read our Pinnacle Sports review here.

Line Ups

The major team news of the tie is the absence of Zenit striker Pavel Pogrebnyak. He will miss the final after being booked in the return leg in Saint Petersburg . Other than the absence of Pogrebnyak Zenit will be able to select a near full strength first eleven. For Rangers Lee McCulloch and DaMarcus Beasle return while Daniel Cousin Chris Burke and Goalkeeper Allan McGregor will all miss the final.

Prediction

It’s a classic match up. The UEFA Cups best attacking side takes on the team with the best defensive record. Despite the grueling schedule I see Rangers maintain the exceptional defensive form. A final has a totally different dynamic to a two round knockout tie which suit the more experienced and defensively minded Rangers side.

Free Tip

Take Rangers at 2.45 to win the UEFA Cup at Pinnacle. I also like the over 2 at 1.952 also available at Pinnacle Sports .

France take on England in Paris tonight for Fabio Cappello second outing as England manager. The England squad have been getting used to Capello’s no nonsense approach and strict team selection. Reputation means little to a man that has coached many of the world’s best players and biggest clubs during his lengthy career. While they weren’t at their best against Switzerland the win would have given them some confidence going into this match and more importantly should have given Cappello more valuable insights into England’s deficiencies.

Despite not qualifying for Euro 2008 their away form has not been to too dismal. Only losing two of of their last 9, the loses coming to Croatia and Russia. In their last away match they grind out a 1-0 win over Austria and had performed admirably in the friendly in Holland drawing 1-1.

France, also not at their best have been hit by withdrawals of six key players: Vieira, Henry, Benzema, Louis Saha, Valbuena, Sagna and Sébastien Frey will all be unavailable. Their form for international friendlies has been mixed losing 2 of the last five, drawing with Morocco and only registering victories over minnows Slovakia and Austria.

I see a more motivated England squad getting a result, my pick back England +0.5 AH @ 1.8 available at Bet365.com

Chelsea face Arsenal on a season defining weekend for the 4 premiership contenders. After a fantastic start, Arsenal have come to a halt in the premiership race, drawing their last 4 matches. Chelsea have been the dark horse. With these two sides currently occupying second and third places, if Manchester United defeat Liverpool, a draw will not be enough for either side. Chelsea are unbeaten in 4 years at home, a total of 77 home matches but this is an Arsenal team that can put in a massive performance on their day. We saw that in the Champions League in particular. The squad has come of age and performed in big games this season. Although they were poor against Middlesbrough last week, their passing game should pose more of a threat at Stamford Bridge. They have been lacking in attack but I see Adebayor coming good under pressure, Van Persie will have been glad to have a run out last week and play most of the match and we can also expect Walcott off the bench.

Chelsea have their own problems, especially at the back. Defence wins premierships. Premiership winning teams just don’t concede 4. I do think Avram Grant’s style will play into Arsenal hands here. There are plenty of attacking threats from Chelsea but Sunderland caused them problems last week and there is no doubting Arsenal can do the same. Since Jose Mourinho’s departure, they’ve managed just two points from their four meetings with the top four all season. , Arsenal were the last team to beat Chelsea in the league back in December and they were also the last team to defeat Chelsea at home. Arsenal need a big performance and just like in Milan I expect them to deliver, take them on the Handicap away from home.

ARSENAL OVER CHELSEA +0.25 ASIAN HANDICAP BET365.COM

If Torres, Ronaldo, Drogba or Adebayor score last in their match, Paddy Power will refund all losing win-draw-win singles, 1st /last goalscorer, correct score & scorecast singles on that match.

Droylsden have had an absolutely awful season. They have looked like a fish out of water in the Blue Square Premier this season and I dont expect things to get any better for them tonight at Grays. Grays Athletic have made steady recent progress under Chairman/Manager Micky Woodward and are looking a tough team to beat especially at home. Grays are unbeaten in their last 3 home matches. That run has included 2 wins, they have also kept 3 consecutive clean sheets at home. They have lost only 1 of their last 9 home matches against promotion hopefuls Exeter City and have beaten leaders Aldershot at home. Droylsden have not won away from this season and lost 14 of 16 away matches in the league. They have lost 8 straight away from home and not picked up an away point since a 1-1 draw with Woking at the start of November. They have conceded 24 goals in their last 8 away matches which is an average of 3 per game and without top scorer Jody Banim who is on loan at Torquay they really are struggling. Grays beat Droylsden 2-1 earlier on this season and I just cant see past them winning tonight and winning comfortably. My tip take them –1 at 1.70 Bet365.com (GRAYS ATHLETIC -1 AH 1.70 BET365 OVER DROYLSEN) RESULT Grays Athletic defeats Droylsden 3:1.

Roma remain in the race for the Scudetto after their come from behind victory over Milan but they will need to be at their best to continue their charge tonight when they meet local rivals Lazio. Now six points behind Inter, Roma’s odds of winning the Scudetto had shortened over the week but only a victory will suffice tonight if they want to remain in contention. Roma are on a great run, winning 4 and drawing 1 of their last 5 matches. They are the form team in the Seria A. Lazio, now nine points above the relegation, only have pride to play for. However old rivalries and derbies are notorious for being extremely difficult to pick. League position even form often times can be trown out the window.

This is not like every other game, for Lazio with little to play for in the league, this is a chance to salvage some pride after a very disappointing season. Entry to Europe is unlikely for them. They’re still missing several key players however at odds of 4 for a home victory all the vaule is on Lazio. My pick Lazio at 4.00 at Bet365.com

PSG have really declined as a football team over these last few years and are in serious threat of being relegated. They have gone 3 matches without a win and have won only 1 of their last 7. However they have been making good progress in the French Cup and have reached the final of Coupe de la Ligue. Clearly the league is the main priority for PSG as long as they remain relegation threatened but some success in the Cup competitions will definitely take the pressure off Manager Paul Le. They have won all 5 of their cup contests and have looked comfortable in all of them.

Bastia too have the League as their main priority as they are pushing for promotion to Ligue. Also like PSG, Bastia have gone 3 matches without a win and have also knocked Auxerre out of a Cup competition, a 3-0 win in the French Cup getting them to the last 16. Their recent away form has not been good, having won only 1 of their last 6.

PSG are unbeaten in 4 matches against Bastia and Bastia have won only 1 of the last 12 meetings between the sides. They don’t like it in Paris either, PSG are unbeaten in 11 home matches against Bastia and have won 9 of those matches. PSG are a good Cup team and have the depth to progress, despite the rumours to the contrary I don’t see them taking this game or the cup competition lightly. My pick Paris St Germain -0.5 and -1 at PinnacleSports @ 2.210.

Liverpool go into this match with a commanding 2-0 lead and are overwhelming favourites to progress to the next stage. The Nerazzurri will be forced to adopt an attacking approach that is foreign for them however I do feel the have the quality to make things interesting in the 2nd leg. Benitez will not adopt an overly defensive style early, remember Liverpool only requires one goal in the first 45 to kill of this tie. Benitez will have noted the many absentees in the Inter starting defence. They will have to go without the injured Ivan Cordoba and Walter Samuel, while Marco Mazarati is suspended after his red card in the first leg. There are is also a question mark over Christian Chivu. He is likely to start, however he doesn’t appear to be 100% fit. Most importantly for Inter, Zlatan Ibrahimovic returned last week after a two game absence in the Seria A with a chronic knee injury. Liverpool be without Xabi Alonso due to the arrival of his newborn baby. They will also be without right back Steve Finnan through injury but Javier Mascherano is fit to play after recovering from a dead leg.

I anticipate a few goals and a realistic chance of Inter pulling off a huge upset and going trough after extra time. The market is putting to much emphasis on recent forum of the two two sides. With the public sentiment on Liverpool, I cant resist the juicy odds of Inter making into the last 16. My pick is Inter 4.00 at PaddyPower, to go trough to the last eight. Good Luck!

IWANS PICK: PLYMOUTH ARGYLE 1.72 (BET365) OVER COLCHESTER UNITED (WIN)

Plymouth Argyle are doing well under Paul Sturrock after a bit of a sticky patch and they are now playoff contenders after putting a good run together. They have been solid for most of the season and have kept 14 clean sheets, 10 more than tonight’s opponents bottom placed Colchester United. They have won 4 of their last 5 in the league but underperformed in the 3-0 loss at West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns. Home Park is a very tough place to go especially when weather is not favorable. They have lost only 2 of their last 10 at home and I don’t think Colchester can get a result.

Colchester have kept only 4 clean sheets this season and they are really struggling at the foot of the table. They have won only 1 of their last 9 league matches a 2-1 win over fellow strugglers Preston at Layer Road. They have lost their last 2 league matches and they have really struggled to win matches, winning only 3 of their last 17 in all competitions.
Colchester don’t have a good record at Plymouth as they have never won on the South Coast and the odds are stacked firmly against them. They have only beaten Plymouth once in their 9 meetings and that was in 1995, they have also only scored 1 goal in their last 7 meetings with Argyle.

I fancy a Plymouth win @ 1.72 available at bet365.

IWANS PICK: WIGAN ATHLETIC 1.82 AH (BET365) OVER MANCHESTER CITY (WIN)

Wigan has been a much improved side under Steve Bruce after a pretty awful start to the season but results and performances have picked up and I think they are finally starting to pull away from the relegation zone although this match against Man City is a
tough one. Their record against Man City in recent times has been positive, the men from Manchester have not beaten them in the Premier League in 5 meetings. Wigan most recently winning 1-0 at the City of Manchester last season and claiming a 1-1 draw against them at the JJB.

Wigan do however struggle to score on their travels but watching their last away game at Sunderland I felt that they did deserve something, having created so many chances I just couldn’t believe they hadn’t managed to get themselves on the scoreboard. They are missing only Ryan Taylor for this match and when you can call on 3 powerful strikers in Marcus Bent, Emile Heskey and Marlon King you know you have a team that can compete in the Premier League and really upset teams.

I have not been very impressed with Manchester City lately, despite winning at Old Trafford a few weeks ago they really didn’t make that result count on Monday when they were outplayed and outfought by a very strong Everton team. They have won only 2 of their last 10 Premier League matches and are missing two of their most impressive performers for tonight’s match with Martin Petrov suspended and Micah Richards injured while defender Vedran Corluka and midfielder Elano are poised to return to the starting line-up while and midfielder Michael Johnson comes into contention following an abdominal strain.

City started the season in great form but I saw signs of weakness creeping in. Wigan’s good record against City and their physical style are two reasons why I am going for them on the Handicap. I fancied Wigan to win the game at a very good price and but taking them at +0.5 on the Handicap is a sensible option for me and one I advise you to take . I see signs of Wigan’s game similar to Everton’s who completely outclassed City on Monday. Lets make it 3 from 3 tonight.

WIGAN ATHLETIC 1.82 AH (BET365) OVER MANCHESTER CITY

Pick: WIGAN ATHLETIC 1.82 AH

Scores: WIGAN ATHLETIC 0 : 0 MANCHESTER CITY

Result: WIN

Odds: 1.82

Sportsbook: Bet365

BONUS PICK: DYNAMO KYIV 2.1 AT Bet365 OVER DNIPRO TOP
Dnipro Top of the Ukrainian League faced 3rd placed and reigning champions Dynamo Kyiv in an eagerly anticipated match. Dynamo Kyiv are a club with so much tradition and have always been the most successful club in the Ukraine but things have been changing as teams such as Shakhtar Donetsk, Metalist Kharkiv and today’s opponents Dnipro are challenging. Dynamo were poor in the Champions League and failed to get a point but I saw signs of a decent team reemerging and I think with a new Manager at the helm they really push on. Yuri Semin was appointed 2 months ago and has made a big impact aldready. Semin is a legend at Lokomitv Moscow as he changed the club from being a mid table side in to one of Russia’s most successful clubs, he also coached the Russian national team. Dnipro are a team I know as I have seen them play against my team Middlesbrough but I also saw them against Aberdeen in this season’s UEFA Cup and they did not impress me. It looks like they have improved since then as they have won 7 straight in all competitions but they did not play any of the top sides.Dynamo will be up for this one tomorrow and will be very confident, they know they need a win as 3 points will put them only a point behind Dnipro and I am confident they can get a vital win. BET RESULT: WIN
